A Mother's Ring

Carrie C of Ottawa came to me with a wee sack of all the jewellery her father had ever given her mother. It was a mixed lot of different sized diamonds, mini sapphires and a very worn big blue gem (seriously in need of re-polishing) set in a number of pieces of jewellery of varying gold karats. She had one instruction: it all had to go into one ring. Given that Carrie is both an artist and an interior decorator made the aesthetic challenge even greater. Here's the result: a trio of rings that includes two matching side bands and the main ring set with 11 gems. What you don't see in this picture is the arc of mini sapphires under one side of the pedestal and a single diamond on the other, and two diamonds set inside the ring. She was thrilled and hasn't taken it off since she got it.
